Mount Airy is a city located in Surry County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 8,484.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 21.7 km² (8.4 mi²). 21.7 km² (8.4 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

The racial makeup of the city is 85.34% White, 7.99% African American, 0.35% Native American, 2.55% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 2.49% from other races, and 1.24% from two or more races. 5.87% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
