Born in Enem, Adygei Autonomous Oblast, Russian SFSR on 11.04.1942. Married with two children. Selected as cosmonaut on 27.04.1970. Retired 31.10.1992.

Flew as Commander on Soyuz T-5.

Spent 211 days 9 hours 4 minutes in space.

Graduated from Air Force Academy; Colonel Soviet Air Force, Ret.; selected as cosmonaut on 27.04.1970 (TsPK-5); retired of medical reasons (after injuries he took as a victim in a armed robbery); from 1992 to 1999 Deputy President Russian Space Federation
