A tag has been placed on Tech coast angels, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. A tag has been placed on Tech coast angels, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of Tech coast angels and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Hell In A Bucket (talk) 19:03, 17 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:TechCoastAngels master logo.jpg

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:TechCoastAngels master logo.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 05:31, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

Hi, Wikitomando. Do you have any connection to Tech Coast Angels? OlYeller21Talktome 18:50, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'm a member of the TCA.Wikitomando (talk) 21:03, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thanks for being forthcoming about your connect and thanks for taking the time to edit Wikipedia and add information about TCA and its investees. You may want to make yourself familiar with a conflict of interest guideline. You are in no way barred from editing the articles of subjects with which you have a close connection but the guideline covers some of the issues it can bring.
I've asked a few editors to take a look at Tech Coast Angels and articles related to it to make sure that they satisfy Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. This is in no way any sort of crack down or witch hunt but it will help to make sure that the articles adhere to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, namely WP:N and WP:NPOV. This will improve the articles in the process. The discussion can be found here. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here or my talk page. OlYeller21Talktome 21:24, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I've added a lot of third party references which I would hope would reinforce the neutrality of the information. I don't believe there has been any complaints to date that I've seen and if someone else wants to edit information they feel might be objectionable or biased, go for it! I can't imagine something as benign as this subject being worthy of the time, but... Wikitomando (talk) 21:46, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The nature of the subject of articles isn't really important in COI cases unless it's a living person then we take extra care. That Wikipedia remains a neutral encyclopedia is all that really matters. The secondary sources you've added work well but as you haven't (and shouldn't) copy them word for word, your editorial influence is in the articles whether you mean for it to be or not. Also in these cases, what's omitted can be an issue. As for complaints, the notability of the subjects has been brought up several times which signifies someone thinking that the subject that you believe belongs here, does not. I would say they're probably wrong but that's one of the reason the report was made; to clear up any issues. As for any of this being worthy of people's time, you could say the same thing about any of us coming here to WP to edit and create content for free. OlYeller21Talktome 21:57, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
When I first created this subject, I brought up Draper Fisher Jurvetson as an example of an article that is completely un-referenced (obviously, they are a well known venture capital firm, but should they have a subject in WP that contains no third party (neutral) references?). Rather than pointing out more inconsistencies in Wikipedia, I decided to find as many third party (neutral) references as possible to make the TCA subject better and avoid any controversy, I can only control what I can. As to "you could say the same thing about any of us coming here to WP to edit and create content for free" - believe me, the thought crosses my mind each time I type here. :) Wikitomando (talk) 22:16, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, ya. I'm really glad I don't have a timer on how long I've spent here. I don't even like thinking about it.
That DFJ definitely needs some work. I've tagged it with some improvement templates to bring in other editors to help with that page. It's surprising that such a large investment firm with so many large names in its portfolio doesn't have a single reference. It's weird how that works here. Sometimes things get through like that. Most say that we'll get to it "eventually".
Anyway, I don't anticipate there being any issues. Have a great rest of the day. OlYeller21Talktome 22:24, 21 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I read your comments on the COI notice board: you said the TCA article mainly has local references, but if you read the list it includes references from the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek and Forbes which are all national media. I'd also note that the TCA is an organization that has members in Santa Barbara-Westlake, Los Angeles, Orange County and Riverside CA along with San Diego - it is not just a San Diego organization - the article states this in the first paragraph. I don't think your comments on the COI notice are accurate and they almost seem (to me) accusative as if something nefarious is going on with our organization.
I again am kind of confused as to the interest here given what I consider a well referenced (locally and nationally) article about a relatively benign business enterprise - a group of angel investors.Wikitomando (talk) 22:30, 23 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't say the TCA article was regional sourced. I said some of its companies it has invested in have articles where notability is not well established. I even go on to say that I think they're notable but that the articles need a little work. I never accused anyone. Did you even read it? I specifically say that I believe that you specifically, as well as other editors, are editing in good faith. This is why WP:COI exists. I think your connection with the company is clouding your judgement. The point of the post is to let other editors look over the article to make sure that they are encyclopedic and follow all of WP's policies and guidelines. There is no witch hunt here. I don't know how I can be more clear about that. OlYeller21Talktome 01:27, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I have read the comments thoroughly, this is the line I'm talking about: "The company has invested in several companies (see section 2), most of them near San Diego, California and their notability is not always well established (articles used as references are usually from regional or local news orgs which doesn't fully satisfy WP:CORPDEPTH)." You can interpret this as talking about the companies or the base article. That section points to the portfolio at the website in addition to the ones in wikipedia - companies are not mostly near San Diego, our organization invests in startups throughout southern California (again Santa Barbara to San Diego).
When I created that section about portfolio companies, I looked through WP for articles that already existed. The only two I had created previously, as you note, are WiSpry and MicroPower, both of which I've tried to keep current. My only other TCA-specific creation was for one of the founders who passed away, Luis Villalobos. He was a founder of the LA chapter, Bill Payne who you mention in comments was involved in San Diego.
I welcome any constructive criticism and certainly would welcome any editorial comments or changes from folks who feel information might be biased or otherwise incomplete. I have tried to source these articles as deeply, and broadly, as possible and make them as neutral as possible (certainly I've seen some venture capital firm articles that read like direct advertisements for the firms).Wikitomando (talk) 17:04, 24 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
