"List of Indian states by past population" needs improvement

[edit]

Hi Rahul, Your new article has many rough edges and merits improvement. In its present state, it is likely to to be deleted or merged. Are you willing to work and improve this article? I am willing to help you in this endeavour. It would be a great shame if after all the effort, that table which must have been so hard to type in lis lost to Wikipedia. Hi AshLin,

Please tell me what exactly you mean by "rough edges" and I shall take care of them User talk:Rahulk.cmc

Copying on Wikipedia

[edit]

Hello. Another contributor noticed that you had placed a great quantity of text at Rajya Sabha which was evidently copied from [1]. The content has been removed. I'm afraid that Wikipedia's copyright policies are quite strict with what we may or may not copy from other sources. We can only copy content from sources that we can demonstrate are compatibly licensed with Wikipedia's licensing requirements. nic.in is not compatibly licensed; according to their license release, the material is restricted for non-commercial use and must be reproduced accurately. Our licenses require that content be available for commercial reuse and modification. If you do find a source that is compatibly licensed, you can copy it, but in order to meet Wikipedia's guidelines on Wikipedia:Plagiarism, you do have to make a note that the material is actually copied. Please see Wikipedia:Copy-paste for an overview of our policies and processes. It's important to be careful with this issue, as the US law that governs Wikipedia requires that American service providers (such as the Wikimedia Foundation) block the accounts of people who repeatedly copy content from non-free sources. So if you aren't sure if content is free, it's a good idea to either assume it is not or to find out for sure first. I'll be watching your talk page for a time in case you'd like to discuss the matter. Please feel free to come by my talk page at any time if you have questions about this. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 15:15, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Rahulk.cmc. You have new messages at Talk:Asian American#Question regarding new table.

--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 11:22, 22 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of U.S. states by Asian American population has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Content is a duplicate of information found here. Content Fork.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Your addition to Automotive industry in India has been removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder. If you are the copyright holder, please read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for more information on uploading your material to Wikipedia. For legal reasons, Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text, or images borrowed from other websites, or printed material without a verifiable license; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites or publications as a source of information, but not as a source of article content, such as sentences or images—you must write using your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Your large scale additions to this article are clear copyright violation, taken from Indian government websites. Please do not do this again. Biker Biker (talk) 08:02, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Biker Biker (talk),

Other than a single image that I uploaded (along with a message clearly indicating that the copyright status of the image was unclear) I am unaware of any "large scale additions" from Indian government websites. All data & tables that I included were typed and not copied verbatim. I welcome any suggestions you might have as to how I can improve my editing methods.Rahulk.cmc (talk) 19:25, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
