Little Eagle is a town located in Corson County, South Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 370.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²). 3.7 km² (1.4 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.10% water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 370 people, 71 households, and 60 families residing in the town. The population density is 101.3/km² (262.9/mi²). There are 74 housing units at an average density of 20.3 persons/km² (52.6 persons/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 0.54% White, 0.00% African American, 99.19% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.27% from two or more races. 2.70% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 71 households out of which 53.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 28.2% are married couples living together, 40.8% have a woman whose husband does not live with her, and 14.1% are non-families. 9.9% of all households are made up of individuals and 1.4% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 5.21 and the average family size is 5.43.

In the town the population is spread out with 48.4% under the age of 18, 13.8% from 18 to 24, 24.1% from 25 to 44, 10.8% from 45 to 64, and 3.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 19 years. For every 100 females there are 87.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.9 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $12,500, and the median income for a family is $11,528. Males have a median income of $20,625 versus $12,321 for females. The per capita income for the town is $3,632. 73.4% of the population and 75.4% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total people living in poverty, 76.8% are under the age of 18 and 50.0% are 65 or older.
