KRBK, channel 49, is a primary Fox/secondary MyNetworkTV-affiliated television station licensed to Osage Beach, Missouri and serving the city of Springfield and Southwest Missouri. The station's owner is Koplar Communications, founding owner of KPLR-TV in St. Louis and former owner of KMAX-TV in Sacramento, the latter of which once bore the KRBK-TV calls.

It is licensed to operate on UHF digital channel 49. The station's main studio is in Springfield, with a satellite studio in Lake Ozark. The station airs on cable channel 10 on Mediacom, CBS affiliate KOLR-TV (which broadcasts on channel 10 over-the-air) is seen on Mediacom cable channel 9; the station is also available on Charter Communications channel 15, Suddenlink Communications channel 67, channel 5 on DirecTV and channel 5 on Dish Network in the Springfield market.

History

The station signed on the air for the first time on August 1, 2009; prior to then, MyNetworkTV programming was not available over-the-air in the Springfield market. Originally, KRBK's transmitter was to have been located halfway between Springfield and Jefferson City in northern Laclede County, giving it rimshot (Grade-B) signals over Springfield and Jefferson City. This is possible because Osage Beach spills into both Camden and Miller counties, and is thus split between two markets. While Camden County is in the Springfield market, Miller County is in the Columbia/Jefferson City market. However, the transmitter was moved to northeastern Polk County, firmly in the Springfield market.

On September 1, 2011, KRBK joined MyNetworkTV's sister network, Fox, replacing KSFX-TV (which became an independent station on that date, under the new callsign of KOZL-TV), which lost the affiliation following a dispute between Fox and KSFX owner Nexstar Broadcasting Group over retransmission consent fees.

The station will remain a secondary affiliate of MyNetworkTV, which will air on the station from 9-11 p.m. (two hours later than the recommended timeslot for MyNetworkTV programming), and it rebranded from "KRBK-HD" to "Fox KRBK".[1]

KRBK is primarily available in the Springfield area on cable or satellite, however it is generally available over the air in Springfield. KRBK upgraded its transmitter to allow areas of Southwest Missouri not serviced by KRBK's over-the-air signal to view Fox network programming; station management expects its signal to be available to most of the area sometime in the fall of 2011.[2] (KRBK now operates a DTS to provide service to the market).TBA KRBK will be adding RTV on 49.2 THIS TV on 49.3

Programming

Syndicated programming currently featured on KRBK includes Access Hollywood, Cash Cab, The Wendy Williams Show, Judge Mathis, Married... with Children, Better, Reno 911!, Punk'd, Comedy.TV, South Park and Deadliest Catch. KRBK's current inventory of syndicated programming largely consists of barter programming; unlike most Fox or MyNetworkTV affiliates, KRBK does not broadcast movies on weekend afternoons.

In addition, KRBK features segments throughout its broadcast day featuring the "KRBK Street Team", who provide entertainment, sports and event-related stories; the station does not currently air a local newscast, though it does run the nationally-syndicated morning news and entertainment program The Daily Buzz on weekday mornings from 6-9 a.m.; however, since the announcement that the station will become the new Fox affiliate for Springfield, the development of local newscasts for KRBK in some form is being contemplated.[2]
