The RV Zeeleeuw is a marine research vessel owned, maintained, and operated by the Fleet Division (Waterways and Marine Affairs Administration AWZ, Department Environment and Infrastructure, Ministry of Flanders).[1][2] The ship is managed by the Flanders Marine Institute.[3]

Formerly a pilot vessel, the RV Zeeleeuw was rebuilt for research purposes. It has numerous assignments, including a monthly voyage to an environmental monitoring station. The vessel is also used for studies involving the environmental impact of wind farms. The ship operates in Belgian maritime waters as well as French and Dutch coastal waters, the Western Scheldt. It is scheduled for replacement in 2011.
