Sanaya Irani (born on 17 September[2]) is an Indian actress known for roles in television programmes such as Miley Jab Hum Tum and Left Right Left. Since 2011 she is seen portraying the role of Khushi in STAR Plus's TV show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?.[3]

Personal life

Sanaya Irani was born and raised in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and received her schooling in Ooty.[4] She is also a Zoroastrian.[5]

Since 2009 she has been dating her co-star, Mohit Sehgal from her previous show Miley Jab Hum Tum.[6][7]

Career

Her first portfolio was taken by photographer, now actor Boman Irani,[8] with which she began her modelling career. She appeared in various advertisements for companies including Airtel, Reliance, and Pepsi in her early career.[1] She made her performing debut with Jagjit Singh's song "Tumko Dekha To Yeh", then appeared in other music videos.[citation needed]

Sanaya began her acting career in 2006 as Bobo, the friend of the lead, Zooni (Kajol) in the Yash Raj movie Fanaa.[9] Sanaya then made her television debut in the SAB TV drama Left Right Left, as Sameera, a new joining cadet[10] which was followed by a role in Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi on Imagine TV.

Her first role as a protagonist came in STAR One's Miley Jab Hum Tum,[11] as the simple, studious and reclusive Gunjan, the younger sister of Nupur (Rati Pandey).[12] She also briefly hosted the second series of Zara Nachke Dikha on STAR Plus with Mohit Sehgal.[13]

After the end of Miley Jab Hum Tum, Sanaya's next major television role was as Khushi Kumari Gupta, the female protagonist of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?. Though not initially the first choice for the role,[14] Sanaya has gained popularity in many different countries for her portrayal of Khushi.[15] The show has also consistently maintained a position as one of the top ten daily dramas on Indian general entertainment channels.[16]
