The group made their official debut on February 16, 2012 with their single "HOLLA", promoting the title track, "Whoz That Girl". History

2012-present: Debut, line-up changes & Mid-August Comeback

Late 2011, Shinsadong Tiger spoke about producing his very own girl group, under AB Entertainment, which he started May 2011. However, originally, the group was to be called "WT", standing for "Who's That", but changed their name merely months before debut.[1]

Before the official debut, member LE, the groups Main Rapper, was featuring alongside Huh Gak for his ballad single "Whenever You Play That Song". The song brought attention towards LE, sparking more interest for the groups upcoming debut.[2]

The group was to debut in January 2012, however, LE had an accident during rehearsals which ended with her sustaining a leg injury, delaying their debut by a few weeks.[3] It was then on February 3, 2012 when the first teaser was released.[4]

After several other teasers, the group officially released their first music video for the title track, "Whoz That Girl",[5] followed by the official release of their first single "HOLLA", a day later.[6]

They then went onto debut on music shows, the first being on "M! Countdown" on February 16, 2012, followed by Music Core and Inkigayo.[7]

On April 30, it was revealed by their agency, AB Entertainment, that Yuzi, Dami and Haeryung left the group. Yuzi, former leader of the group, will temporarily stop working and return to Seoul Institute of Arts after take a break to promote "Whoz That Girl", Dami is studying to get into college and Haeryung is planning to become an actress. AB Entertainment also revealed the group will be turning into a five-member group and will release new material in June.[8]

It was revealed on the 17th of July, AB Entertainment has released a statement saying that instead of making a June comeback (which has not happened yet) EXID will have a comeback in mid-August. The reason is because to finalize the member line up and finishing off promotions. It has been reconfirmed that the group will add 2 more members - totaling up to 5 members, with LE (the groups main rapper) as the leader.[9]
