Sean Ka Keung Tse (pronounced [ʃɔn kɑː˥˧ kʰœːŋ˨˩ tsɛː˨˨], Traditional Chinese: 謝嘉強, born 3 May 1992)is an Irish-English footballer of Hongkonger and Irish heritage currently playing for League One club Oldham Athletic and having been released from Manchester City in May 2012. His position is a Defender. He had represented Republic of Ireland U-17 at international level.

Early life

Sean Tse was born in City of Salford, Greater Manchester, to a Chinese father and an English mother. At the beginning, Tse had been on trial with Manchester United and also played for some temporary calls at the team. However, he eventually joined Manchester City at under-14 team.[2]

Club career

Manchester City

Tse started to play for Manchester City in September 2005. In 2008–09 season, he left Manchester City on a short-term basis as he had a groin injury, while the club waited for him to return to full fitness. He returned and soon proved his worth.[3] Unluckily, injury struck again in late 2009 when he suffered ligament damage. However, he was given the Etihad Player of the Month award for the Academy team in November 2009.[2]

In 2011–12 season, new rules of Premier League and UEFA had been introduced and his wonderful performance drew the coach team's attraction, so he was listed on the member list for Premier League and for UEFA matches.[2] However, Tse was abandoned by Manchester City in May 2012 and have failed to make a first-team appearance in the club.[4]

International

Tse is eligible for Republic of Ireland through his maternal grand-parentage. Tse was called for Republic of Ireland national under-17 football team in April 2009 to two under-17 friendlies against Poland national under-17 football team but he absented these two matches.[1][5]
