David Carney (born November 30, 1983 in Sydney, Australia) is an Australian football (soccer) player who currently plays as a right midfielder for Sydney FC in the newly formed Hyundai A-League. Carney played alongside Wayne Rooney during his teenage years in the Everton youth team whilst under contract at Everton. Before joining Sydney FC Carney was playing for Hamilton Academical, in Scotland.

Once a virtual unknown toiling in British lower league obscurity, the conception of the A-League and Carney's subsequent signing with Sydney has seen his star rise considerably within Australia. His exceptional dribbling and occasional goal poaching (including one goal in the FIFA Club World Championship 2005) has made Carney a genuine crowd favourite at Sydney FC, and earnt him the nickname "Super Dave". However, his admirers stretch beyond the harbour city; Carney is now hailed as one of the league's finest young talents and is an Australian international, making his debut on February 22 2006 as a substitute against Bahrain in an Asian Cup qualifier.

Carney's success with Sydney led to rumours of a big-money move to Europe. At the end of the 2005-06 season, Carney trialed with clubs from Germany and Romania. He is currently believed to be considering a contract offer from Bundesliga side 1. FC Nürnberg.
