Fotbal Club Petrolul Ploiești (Romanian pronunciation: [peˈtrolul ploˈjeʃtʲ]) is a Romanian professional football club based in Ploiești, Prahova County, currently playing in the Liga I.

History

They won the Romanian championship 4 times, in 1929–30, 1957-1958, 1958-1959 and 1965-1966 and the Romanian Cup 2 times, in 1962–63, 1994–95.

Their best European performance was reaching the quarter-finals of the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in the 1962-63 edition after eliminating Spartak Brno from Czechoslovakia and Leipzig XI from the German Democratic Republic and being defeated by the Hungarian side Ferencvárosi TC. In the 1995-1996 they also managed to defeat Welsh team Wrexham FC narrowly over two games.

Petrolul wins their 2010–11 Liga II series, promoting back to the Liga I after the relegation from 2004.
