The 2006 NFL Draft is taking place in New York City at Radio City Music Hall on April 29 and April 30 2006, and is telecasting for the 27th consecutive year on ESPN, ESPN2 and the NFL Network. The selection process began at 12:00 PM EDT (16:00 UTC).

Mario Williams selection

Mario Williams, a defensive end out of North Carolina State University, signed a contract with the Houston Texans on the evening of April 28, 2006, ensuring that he would become the first pick. This came as a surprise to most experts, as it was assumed that USC running back Reggie Bush would have been taken with the first overall pick. [1]

University of Miami first round record

The 2006 NFL Draft continued the ongoing record of the University of Miami Hurricanes, who have produced a first-round draft pick in each of the past 12 NFL drafts. The Hurricanes' Kelly Jennings, a cornerback, was selected by the Seattle Seahawks with the first round's 31st selection to keep the streak alive.
