Wade's Causeway
Appearance
Wade's Causeway is the name of part of an ancient road, thought to be a Roman road on Wheeldale Moor in the North Yorkshire Moors, North Yorkshire England. The section of the road is well preserved, and has been excavated,[1]
The name 'Wade's Causeway' is also applied to the whole road, which ran from Malton to Whitby; passing roughly northward from Malton via Stape and crossing the River Esk as Grosmont, beyond which the eastwards route to Whitby is uncertain. It is thought to have connected roman camps at Cawthorne Camp with the garrisson at Lease Rigg. The road may be a medieval construction.[1]
