Petrov Val (Template:Lang-ru) is a town in Kamyshinsky District of Volgograd Oblast, Russia, located on the left bank of the Ilovlya River (a tributary of the Don) 185 kilometers (115 mi) north of Volgograd. Population: 13,239 (2010 Census);[1] 14,721 (2002 Census);[2] 13,752 (1989 Soviet census).[3]

History

It grew out of the construction of the Volga-Don Canal between the Ilovlya and the Kamyshinka Rivers, started by Peter the Great in 1698 but abandoned soon after. It was granted urban-type settlement status in 1949 and town status in 1988.
