Magandang Gabi, Bayan (Good Evening, Nation) named after his signature open and close of Noli de Castro, was a top rated news magazine program in the Philippines. the show's last broadcast was on December 31, 2005. The cancellation of the show rumored to be caused by problems with long-time host Noli de Castro and the ABS-CBN management. It was circulated in daily local broadsheets, that the station wanted to attack the Arroyo administration using the show, but de Castro (former Vice-President of the Philippines) decline to attack the 'administration, because he is part of it'.
History
Started on August 21, 1988, its first anchor "Kabayan" ("compatriot" or "fellow countryman") Noli de Castro. The program's aim is to expose illegalities of some Philippine government officials as well as to render public service to the Filipino people.[citation needed] Continues to hold the title for the leading and longest public service program in the Philippines.
After De Castro' election to the Senate of the Philippines, the program brought in new hosts Katherine "Kat-Kat" de Castro (De Castro's daughter), Erwin Tulfo and Henry Omaga-Diaz.
The show returned for one episode (hosted by De Castro) on October 2011 for a Halloween Special via ABS-CBN's Sunday's Best.
