Global Warming is the seventh studio album recorded by American rapper Pitbull. It will be released on November 19, 2012.[4][5] A teaser to accompany the release of Global Warming was first released onto Pitbull's official Facebook and YouTube channel on September 17, 2012.[6][7] Global Warming is also the follow-up to Pitbull’s critically acclaimed album Planet Pit which sold over 1.4 million albums and 18 million singles worldwide.

Background

On October 7, 2011, RCA Music Group announced it was disbanding J Records along with Arista Records and Jive Records. With the shutdown, Pitbull, and all other artists previously signed to these three labels, will instead release future material on the RCA Records brand. In April 2012, it was announced that his seventh studio album would be entitled "Global Warming". Pitbull announced in May 2012, via Facebook, that the album would be released on November 19, 2012. It was also announced that the lead single from the album would be attached to the Men in Black 3 soundtrack. "Back in Time", which samples "Love Is Strange" by Mickey & Sylvia, was released on May 24, 2012. The second single, "Get It Started", featuring singer Shakira was released in July 2012. A tour promoting the album in the United States began in August 2012, and includes the concert in Ulan Bator, Mongolia on September 8.[8]

In 2012, Pitbull was involved in an advertising campaign with Walmart, in which the Walmart store that gets the most Facebook "likes" from June 18 to July 15, 2012 would have Pitbull visit and put on a show there. An orchestrated campaign started by The Boston Phoenix reporter David Thorpe[9] and SomethingAwful.com writer Jon Hendren urged people to vote for a remote location in Kodiak, Alaska.[10] In an email to the Associated Press Walmart confirmed that Kodiak won.[11] Pitbull visited Kodiak on July 30 where he received a key to the city from mayor Branson and then made an appearance before a crowd of hundreds at the Coast Guard base, including the original orchestrator of the campaign to whom he had extended a public invitation.[12][13]

In October Pitbull confirmed that he collaborated with Shakira, Christina Aguilera, Chris Brown, Jennifer Lopez, The Wanted, Enrique Iglesias and Havana Brown.[14]

Singles

"Back in Time" was released as the album's lead single on March 26, 2012.[15] The song peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was released as the main theme from Men in Black 3, appearing over the end credits of the film. "Get It Started" was released as the album's second single on June 28, 2012. The track features guest vocals from Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira. The single was most successful in Germany.[16]

"Don't Stop the Party" was released as the album's third single on September 25, 2012. It samples the song "Funky Vodka" by TJR. "Feel This Moment" is going to be released on November 14 as the album's fourth single, the track features vocals from the American singer-songwriter Christina Aguilera.
