Dhital is a Nepalese surname. This name might have come from a combination of the words "Dhee" (excellent) and "Tal" (rhythm), meaning "a person with an excellent rhythm". DHITAL's origin most likely is from Jumla, a far northwestern district of Nepal, but they are now scattered all over the country, including in Lamjung, Gorkha, Dang, Kathmandu, Nuwakot, Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchowk and Rupandehi.

The Dhital's gotra (lineage) is from Kaushik, also known as Viswamitra, a legendary sage of ancient Bharat Barsha (Anglicized to Indian Sub-continent).
