Area code 646
Appearance
Area code 646 is a New York City telephone area code for the borough of Manhattan, created July 1, 1999, due to all the variations of 212 and 917 area codes having been activated.
Intended for use primarily as an area code for mobile devices, 646 is also occasionally assigned to some Manhattan land lines.
The 646 area code was discussed at length in the Seinfeld episode, The Maid, when Elaine's telephone number is changed from 212 to 646 to her chagrin.
