Talk:Opening of the North Atlantic Ocean

Zach, I feel tat you have a very strong page with excellent figures. However, on the active vs passive section, there was no relation to your topic. If you could link the two together, it would be a more powerful read. For your images, you show take at least one out of the thumbnail view because figures in geology help tell your story, so if the figure is easier to see/understand, the easier it would be to get your topic across. Finally, I'm not sure if there is a theory that is believed more than another to the cause of the North Atlantic breakup, however you could indicate which one is more likely to have happened and base it off evidence that was found in research

Zach,
1)I think you should start off you page by explaining what the North Atlantic breakup is because I wasn't sure what it was at first. It should be more clearly stated like The North Atlantic breakup is the separation of the North American plate from the Eurasian plate. Then tell when it occurred.
2)Also you need to references anytime you state something that is not common knowledge. for example "Since these rocks have been dated to the late Paleocene, this lines up with the time of breakup of the North Atlantic continent and could have been a contributing factor."
3)You should refer to your figure in the text otherwise it is just a random figure on your page.
4)You can use more wiki page links for things on your page like lithosphere, mid-atlantic ridge, ect...

Main Comments:
Is the title of your page “The North Atlantic Breakup”? If so, I think you can find a more appropriate term that would render better search results and know you’re talking about plate spread.
Good succinct intro although it can use more direct terms.
So basically the North Atlantic broke up either due to primary (mantle plume) or secondary (lithosphere stretching) processes. I feel it would be clearer if you used something like that rather than an undefined phrase like “natural outcome”.
I liked heading and sub-heading organization.
This made me think about the longevity of hot spots and if that’s anywhere on the order of how long the Atlantic has been spreading.
