Murshidabad College of Engineering and Technology (MCET), is a private engineering college located in Berhampore, West Bengal, India. MCET offers 6 engineering courses along with Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) operated under West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT) affiliated to All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

Established in 1998 with the approval of AICTE and affiliated to Kalyani University with 120 students in 3 disciplines, as a non commercial, self financing, partly Govt. Aided Engineering College from the Murshidabad Institute of Technology Campus and soon after six months shifted to its own huge campus where the Laboratories, Workshops, Classrooms, Library, Computer Centers and Hostels are all located.

Campus

The beautiful lush green campus is located around 5 km away from Berhampore, the district town of Murshidabad district, West Bengal, India. With separate hostel facilities for boys and girls, it makes for an excellent place away from home - to learn, to enjoy among newly made friends. Students share an excellent rapport transcending boundaries of seniority. Also the college boasts of indoor as well as outdoor games facilities for entertainment.

COMMUNICATION TO THE CAMPUS

♦ By Rail

Berhampore Court is the nearest station which is connected with Sealdah Station at Kolkata. The Bhagirathi Express & the Lalgola Passenger from the Sealdah Railway Station reach Berhampore Court Railway Station covering 197 km in 5 to 6 hours. Khagraghat, the other station at the opposite bank of the river Bhagirathi is connected with the Howrah Station. Teesta Torsa, Kamrup, Hatey Bazare express have stoppage at Khagraghat Railway Station. The Khagraghat Railway station is also connected by local trains from Katwa, Salar, Bandel and Howrah. One can also reach Khagraghat Station from Howrah by JanShatabdi Express.

♦ By Road

Buses ply frequently from Kolkata (i.e. from Esplanade, Ultadanga etc) to Berhampore. Most of the North Bengal bound buses have a halt at Berhampore. Buses from nearby district town of West Bengal i.e. Burdwan, Rampurhat, Suri, Bolpur, Malda, Krishnagar and Durgapur regularly ply to Berhampore.


Library

  • The institute possesses an up-to-date and well equipped library with text books, reference books, hand books, Magazines, Journals, periodicals, etc
  • Library is rich in more than 11,000 books exclusively for B.Tech students.
  • The institute subscribes for a number of technical periodicals & journals both Indian and International. The e-journal subscription has widened the prospects of browsing more than 100 standard journals of international repute.
  • Newspapers (including Employment News) are also kept in the library for general awareness of the students.
  • Book-Bank facility for SC/ST students sponsored by Government of West Bengal.

Tradition and student placements

The students of the institution have participated in various social activities including collection of funds for cyclone victims or supporting the ABP Kargil relief fund.

From a cultural standpoint too, MCETians have shown enthusiasm and zeal. The fresher's welcome ceremony "FOLIAGE" and the Annual Fest "CORUS" are the platforms for cultural performance of MCETians. They also organize the farewell ceremony “VOYAGE”every year for the outgoing final year students of MCET. A reunion celebration, named “"NOSTALGIA" is also organized where past students are invited.

MCETians also regularly participate in blood donation camps organized within the college campus.


Alumni

Most of the alumni are well placed in various sectors today in India as well as overseas. Some have even taken up entrepreneurship setting up companies like Encoders and Omnipotent Solutions. Many have even taken up higher studies in institutes of repute.


Training and Placements

The Industrial Training is typically organized for third year students. Organizations like NTPC, CMC, BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd), CMRI, CETE (Central for Electronics Test Engineering) etc have trained and certified MCET students.

Over the years, the students of this institute have been placed in reputed organizations like Infosys, TCS, Wipro, IBM India Pvt. Ltd., Cognizant Technology Solutions, Mahindra Satyam, Sasken Communication Technologies etc. primarily through pulled campus recruitments or through individual efforts. Many students have also pursued higher studies - M.Tech, MBA or post graduation and have placed themselves in organizations or educational institutes of repute in India and abroad.
