John Michael "Jackie" Condon (March 25, 1918 – October 13, 1977) was an American child actor who was a regular on the Our Gang short series during the Pathé silent era.
Career
Jackie Condon first appeared in the 1922 Our Gang silent short film, Our Gang. Condon was chosen by comedy producer/writer Hal Roach to work in Our Gang in 1921 at the age of three. Condon was signed to a seven-year contract and he worked with many child actors during his seven years in the series from 1922-1929. During his first few years as a toddler, he worked with freckle-faced Mickey Daniels, smiling Sunshine Sammy played by Ernie Morrison, pretty Mary Kornman, fat Joe Cobb, and little Farina played by Allen Hoskins. Condon was known for his mischevious behavior and his wild, unruly hair which looked like it had been combed with an eggbeater. Although he was popular throughout his run, he was never really a standout player. Despite that, Condon was the only regular to appear in every on of the 66 Pathe` comedies produced. He appeared in the last Pathe` silent The Smile Wins and the first MGM silent Yale vs. Harvard. In total, he appeared in 78 Our Gang comedies over seven years. He starred in his last Our Gang short, Growing Pains, in 1928. He left the series in 1928 at the age of ten and disappeared from show business for a while. Condon made another guest appearance in early 1929 and that is what says to be his final appearance in the series. He tried to comeback to show business in the early 1950s without much success. At one time he worked with fellow Our Gang actor Joe Cobb at Rockwell International in Los Angeles.
Death
Condon died of cancer on October 13, 1977 in Inglewood, California. He was cremated, and his ashes scattered.
