Kuriachira, from all practical aspects, is the intellectual capital of Thrissur. This town is conveniently located within 2 km away from Swaraj Round in the south direction. It lies beside the Thalore Bye-Pass Road. Kuriachira is 25th division of Thrissur Municipal Corporation. It's an important residential area of Thrissur city of Kerala state of India. Nowadays, Kuriachira has become a posh residential area in Thrissur city. Frequent public/private transportation facility and an array of excellent educational institutions have made this place, one of the most sought after residential centers in the state of Kerala. Kuriachira has always maintained a higher standard in everything from education to spiritual enrichment. These days, Kuriachira real estate is enjoying its Golden status; as everyone is interested in this place and prospective buyers are willing to do anything possible to claim a piece of Kuriachira. Most of the Jewellery Merchants in Thrissur has their home/base in and around Kuriachira. Renowned Malayalam writer and feminist Sara Joseph was born here. Award-winning novel "Aalahayude Penmakkal" by Sara Joseph gives insight into the life, taste, history, people and linguatone of Kuriachira.

Spiritual Centers of Kuriachira St.Joseph's Church is the center of everything happening in this intellectually brilliant town. The circular-shaped St. Joseph's Church in Kuriachira is very famous. St Gregorios Orthodox church is situated in Nehru Nagar, it is in the name of Saint Gregorios of Parumala. Mar Thimotheus Church is next spiritual place in kuriachira. Karikkattukkara Temple is the only one temple in Kuriachira.

Educational Institutions Kuriachira has been lucky to introduce the concept of Un-Aided School in Kerala through the famous St. Joseph's Model Higher Secondary School and would be most likely the first ever Un-Aided school in India. St.Paul's Convent English Higher Secondary School is another gem in Kuriachira along with a multitude of various educational institutes including Pope John Primary School, Mar Thimotheus Higher Secondary School (Sara Joseph studied here) and St.Joseph's Teacher Training Institute.


Social Activities of Kuriachira Kuriachira is well known for Social and Cultural Activities. Father Vadakkan (Vadakkanachan), who was a renowned socialist and famous for his 'Pope John Nagar housing scheme for the poor', was one time the vicar of St. Joseph's Church in Kuriachira. He is considered the Father Of Modern Kuriachira. It was in his leadership the place got its everlasting charm. Places of social importance are Slum Service Center working in St.Paul's Street, Kuriachira.

Kuriachira has many notable landmarks which have significance in religious, governmental, educational, social or economic sector. Places of governmental importance are Central Warehouse, Post Office, Legal Metrology Department, BSNL Telephone Exchange and Electricity Office. Most of all major banks are in Kuraichira such as State Bank of India, Canara Bank, The South Indian Bank and Kuriachira Service Co-operative Sciety. Places of economic importance are St.in Thrissur District.
