Street workout
Appearance
"Street Workout" is a movement based on exercising by using public facilities, such as equipment in schoolyards or parks. The movement supports healthy living through readily available and financially inexpensive means. It is a combination of athletics, calisthenics, parkour, hip-hop and sports. The groundwork of Street Workout is composed of a complex of exercises which are mainly done by using bodily weight. Street workout also includes exercises that don't require any weights. Street workout is constantly gaining recognition and popularity worldwide as a social movement and a democratic sporting activity.
Basics of Street workout
A typical street workout consists of:
- Athletics exercising - a system of exercises with various levels of exertion provided for health strengthening, development of strength and stamina, as well as, for shaping an athletic constitution. Athletics exercising is used to increase strength level, develop physical shape and for rehabilitation.
- Calisthenics – is a complex of many simple exercises which are performed using purely body weight. The aim of these exercises is to train muscularity strength and to evolve comprehensive fitness.
- Parkour – a physical discipline of French origin in which participants run along a route, attempting to navigate obstacles in the most efficient way possible, using only their bodies. Skills such as jumping, climbing, vaulting, rolling, swinging and wall scaling are employed. It was founded by a Frenchman David Bell.
- Hip-hop – a form of musical expression and artistic culture originated in African-American communities during the late 1970s in New York City district Bronx. Hip-hop was widely affected by the traditional Jamaica style music at the beginning of its coming into existence. This genre typically consists of vocal style of expression “rap” which is accompanied by music.
Championships
The first World Championship took place in Riga, Latvia at 2011 27th and 28th of August.
