Pet Society is an internet social game developed by Playfish and launched within Facebook. The game has been ranked as one of the most popular Facebook applications.[1][2] New players custom design their pets by choosing genders, names, colours, and physical appearance features.

There are a variety of activities with which the user can interact with the pet, including washing, brushing, petting and feeding the pet. There are also activities whereby pets can interact with the pets of those in the "friends" network. A pet can visit the pets of their friends and perform the same activities to these pets (washing, grooming, feeding, etc.). A pet can visit other pets as many times per day as it is inclined. Pets will receive coins on the first visit to each friend of the day and Paw Points on this and each subsequent visit. Ways to earn coins in Pet Society include the Daily Lottery, visiting friends, winning awards, cleaning or playing with pets, winning hurdle races or betting on the outcome of hurdle races. Ways to earn Paw Points include visiting friends, buying items and using the stadium.

Levels

Earning a certain number of paw points makes the pet level up, in order to gain some coins, new features and special status. When originally release there were only 23. After 11 additional levels added, level number is totally 34. After houses were enlarged to accommodate ten rooms, an additional 13 levels were added bringing the total to 47. In the past, changes to the game meant that paw points were being reset after each level. After many complaints, Playfish changed the paw points back. In August 2010 Pet Society introduced new levels from level 47 to level 100.[3]

Features

Finding Hideeni, a mysterious black animal in a costume, in a player's house, a friend's house or in a Shop gives the player an opportunity to send a special gift to his or her friends. In Facebook, the availability of a gift is posted to a player's news feed where his or her friends can see it and click a link to claim the gift. Gifts are available to the first five friends who click to claim them; any friends thereafter get a message telling them that all the gifts have been claimed and keep looking for another gift post soon.

The first update of February, 2010, brought a new feature to players: Petlings. Petlings are small bundles of fun that grow up to become any range of cute little animal "pets" for the player's Pet Society pet. The first Petlings introduced were cats and dogs.

On Thursday, April 21, 2011, "Challenges" were introduced.

Players can choose to take pictures of their pets at almost any point of the game. Clicking the camera icon would bring up a window asking for the type of print-Room, Room & Pet, Closeup or Portrait. Players are also allowed to send gifts to each other from a wide range of items.
