Securities America is an independent broker/dealer founded in 1984 . Its main headquarters are located in La Vista, Nebraska. Securities America Financial Corporation is the current holding company of Securities America Inc. and Securities America Advisors Inc. and is wholly by Ladenburg Thalmann Financial Services Inc. Securities America, Inc. is a registered broker/dealer and a Member FINRA/SIPC. The company’s main business to provide services to financial professionals by the way of providing technology, compliance and operational support to help them provide investment and financial planning services including securities and insurance brokerage, as well as asset management services to their clients.[1]
History
The firm was started in the year 1984 under the name Financial Dynamics. This name was officially changed to Securities America in 1985. It started out as an insurance services firm but soon changed to a financial services company serving registered representatives. In 1990, the firm saw a sudden jump in the no. of representatives joining when 300 representatives joined Securities America taking the total count of registered representatives to 800. In 1994, Securities America Advisors was formed with Janine Jones Wertheim as its President. In 1998, Securities America became a subsidiary of America Express Financial Corporation, a fortune 100 company. It was then the tagline ‘Your Business Growth Expert’ was coined. Later in 2005, America Express Financial Corporation detached itself from American Express to be become a new fortune 300 company under the name Ameriprise. In 2010, Securities America became a subsidiary of Ladenburg Thalmann Financial Services Inc. and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the firm. Securities America continues to operate independently [2]
Key People
- James Nagengast : James is the CEO of Securities America. Having joined the firm in 1994, James became the president of Securities America in 2008 and the CEO in 2010. He holds a series 7, 24 and 27 license and is an AB in economics from Harvard University.
- Janine Wertheim: She is the President of Securities America Advisors and Senior VP and Chief Marketing officer of Securities America Inc. She joined the firm in 1984 when the firm was established. She holds a series 7, 65, 63 and 24 securities licenses.
- Kirk Hulett: He is the Executive Vice President for practice management for both Securities America Advisors and Securities America Inc. He is a certified Master Quality Facilitator from Crosby institute and holds a series 7 and 24 securities liceses.
- Gregg Johnson: He is the Senior Vice President, Branch Office Development for Securities America Advisors and Securities America Inc. He joined the firm in 2006. Gregg is an MBA from Creighton University and holds a Series 7, 24, 63 and 66 securities licenses.[3]
Awards and Recognition
- Financial Plnning magazine ranked Securities America as the eighth largest Independent Broker-Dealer in the country according to the magazine’s June 2012 list of independent broker-dealers, based on year-end 2011 revenue.[4]
- Securities America’s employee Lofties received the Thought Leadership Award from Retirement Income Industry Association in 2011.[5]
Corporate Social Responsibility
- On August 31, 2012, Securities America participated in a community service project for local child protection center Project Harmony and gave out blankets and other comfort gifts to children identified by Project Harmony.[6]
