Nässjö Municipality
Nässjö Municipality (pron. Naeschoe) is a municipality in Jönköping County, in southern Sweden where the town Nässjö (pop. 16,000) is seat.
Nässjö was for a long time only a rural village with agriculture as the dominating occupation. The turnpile was the Swedish railroads. The southern main line railway finished in 1864 passed through Nässjö between Malmö (in the south) and Falköping (in the midth country). Later, other railroads were inaugurated, whereby Nässjö, due to its geographical location in the country, became an important railroad junction. A line to Katrineholm was opened in 1874, and that year also so the openingen of the Oskarshamn line; the one to Halmstad in 1882; to Kalmar in 1914.
As a result industries moved to Nässjö, and the population increased. The most important industries were wood industries due to the forest covered Småland province area, at a time when it had become possible to factory manufacture the wooden chair (a.k.a windsor chair).
Nässjö tried to get a charter, which was granted in 1914, making it one of the now defunct Cities of Sweden. Its population continued to increas throughout the 20th century. In the 1940s production of the fire tools began, and the industry "Eldon AB" was for a long time the largest industry of the town.
Nässjö became a municipality in 1971 with the municipal reform. The mural crown signifies that it once had a charter.
