Competitions

Federation Cup

Dempo entered the 2012 Indian Federation Cup into Group A with Pailan Arrows, Mumbai, and Shillong Lajong. Dempo played their first match of the tournament on 19 September 2012 against Pailan Arrows in which the club drew 1-1.[1] The club then played their second match of the tournament on 21 September 2012 against Shillong Lajong where they were won 1-0. [2] The club then ended the group stage with a win against Mumbai where they won 4–0. They ended top of Group A with 7 points and qualified for the semi-finals. [3]

In the semi-finals, they faced Salgaocar which they won 2-0 thanks to goals from Joaquim Abranches and Koko Sakibo.[4]

In the final Dempo faced East Bengal. Dempo were up 1–0 after 51 minutes after a goal by former India captain Climax Lawrence but East Bengal managed to equalize through newly signed defender Arnab Mondal in the 60th minute which sent the match to 30-minute extra-time at 1–1. In extra time, East Bengal scored twice through Manandeep Singh in the 100th minute and Chidi Edeh in the 109th minute to take a 3–1 lead. It was cut down to a 3–2 after another former India international, Mahesh Gawli scored in the 111th minute. But that was still enough for East Bengal to win the Federation Cup for the 2nd time in 3 years and their eighth overall and hence Dempo ended Runners-up. [5]
