Lisandro Guarcax (died in 2010) was a well-known artist and dancer from Guatemala. He was also employed at an elementary school in the Chuacruz district where there are about 500 students. This is a very poor area in Solola where almost all the inhabitants are Mayan Indians.

On August 25th, 2010 Guarcax was kidnapped while he sat in his father's car. The next day he was found murdered, with several signs of violence and torture on his body. Who stood behind his murder is still unclear. But this is not the first time that an activist and advocate for the preservation of Mayan Indians' language and culture are killed in Guatemala. Cases like this is does not get particular attention in Guatemala.
