Duuude

Your hamster is awesome. And I totally forgot why I came here. So... uh... hi. -— Isarra 04:22, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Your visit flatters me. Stop by anytime. I will pass your compliment on to the animals currently serving as my hamsters - the position actually cycles in new applicants every 18-24 months, and the hamster you saw has retired. Blue Rasberry (talk) 13:55, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi Bluerasberry, I'm hoping you can help with something as the UW wiki ambassador. The UWEO article [[1]] has been flagged for copyright violation. There's a link to a Duplication Detector report and it doesn't really look like there's anything copyrighted lifted from the PDF the report is pulling from. There are a bunch of programs listed that appear in both but those are the names of the programs, "Seattle Times" is flagged because a Times article is cited in the wiki and the Seattle Times is mentioned as being represented on an advisory board in the PDF, the name of the Vice Provost is flagged, etc. The only thing that looks iffy to me is "to meet the needs of working (adults)"/"to meet the needs of working (professionals)" and there is a citation for that text. Does this really constitute copyright infringement? Any advice is much appreciated, I'm a wikipedia novice. By the way hamsters are the best, I still have a beautiful chewed up piece of driftwood my beloved Bullhorn sculpted circa 1995. Ralwin (talk) 15:37, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

I am glad to help you, but I am busy for the next few days. I am available to talk by phone or Skype sometime if you think that would help, and you also have options to attend the local meetup at Café Allegro on the first Tuesday of the Month if you want to learn more - see Wikipedia:Meetup/Seattle.
A list of facts does not constitute copyright violation, but copying and pasting the phrasing of things does and copying an entire text and just changing a few words does also. See what the robot found here - this is inappropriate by Wikipedia standards.
I would be very happy and interested to help you meet your goals for contributing to Wikipedia. Consider going to the talk page of the article (accessible by clicking "talk" at the top of the page) and copying what you wrote here there, and getting a response from others. Thanks. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:52, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

meetup greets

Thanks for coming to the editathon. If you want to meet Wikipedians in Seattle or NYC then let me know. Also let me know if you meet anyone doing any particular kind of Wikipedia project - I can probably connect you.
I regret that we never met while I lived in Seattle but am glad that I could meet you yesterday. Blue Rasberry 16:25, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
Ditto--thanks for coming to the edit-athon! Come back again! --Another Believer (Talk) 18:18, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Great to meet you too ! Wikipedia:Meetup/Portland/Wiki Loves Libraries/2012. Here is one of the graphs I was talking about with editor information, though even this is now two years old editor trends study 2010. Hope to see you around on wikipedia and across the globe :). here 22:22, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Coffee!

Howdy. Thanks for leaving a cup of coffee on my userpage. Not only was it still warm when I got there but I was thirsty, so it came just in time. It's much appreciated! --Olegkagan (talk) 06:09, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

Great meeting with you good sir. Hope the rest of your Halloween goes well, or ghoulish perhaps, never know down on the Drive! The Interior (Talk) 03:38, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Global health

Thanks for following up about that class:[2]. Any response from the professor? I just reverted some edits there. Biosthmors (talk) 02:03, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

"Also, did find it a bit disconcerting that someone posted that the global health updates weren't relevant or improvements" "I would prefer to communicate with email" The professor did not want to talk to me by phone or Skype. I sent him enough information and offered to help him as he liked. His name is Jyothi Thrivikraman and his contact information is here. I just wrote him again and offered more help. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:21, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
Hmm... he just replied to me and said that this was not from his students. I will write to all the students and see what is up. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:34, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Help Needed for Seattle Biomed

Hi Bluerasberry, I would appreciate your assistance in editing Seattle BioMed's Wikipedia page. I am new to editing in this capacity, and thought I did everything you asked by providing references/sources for the page with my most recent edits from 11/7. However, it's clear I'm doing something wrong as the information continues to be taken down. Any assistance you can provide would be most helpful.

Thanks you so much for your help! Boydmero1 (talk) 19:11, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

I just emailed you my contact information and look forward to speaking with you. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:17, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

This is not a newsletter

This is just a tribute.

Anyway. You're getting this note because you've participated in discussion and/or asked for updates to either the Article Feedback Tool or Page Curation. This isn't about either of those things, I'm afraid ;p. We've recently started working on yet another project: Echo, a notifications system to augment the watchlist. There's not much information at the moment, because we're still working out the scope and the concepts, but if you're interested in further updates you can sign up here.

In addition, we'll be holding an office hours session at 21:00 UTC on Wednesday, 14 November in #wikimedia-office - hope to see you all there :). I appreciate it's an annoying time for non-Europeans: if you're interested in chatting about the project but can't make it, give me a shout and I can set up another session if there's enough interest in one particular timezone or a skype call if there isn't. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 10:48, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, acknowledged. Blue Rasberry (talk) 21:21, 12 November 2012 (UTC)

Yadav

We conflicted on the Yadav article but sourcing the basics is easy - the thing was already linked in the infobox. See this. Will have to go through newspapers etc for the rest of it, obviously. The article subject is quite a divisive personality, so if you'd be prepared to add the thing to your watchlist in order to counter any possible vandalism then it would be appreciated. - Sitush (talk) 15:01, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

It is already on my watchlist. I am not prepared to jump into developing an article on a controversial figure but yes, I plan to continue watching it for vandalism and to answer questions on the talk page. Thanks for adding sources. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:29, 19 November 2012 (UTC)

K12 Discussion

Hi Bluerasberry,

When you have a chance, would you mind taking a look at my reply on Talk:K12_(company)? I understand why I shouldn't make changes to the controversies section but I do think part of the current lead could use a slight tweak to bring it in line with WP:NPOV. I'd appreciate your thoughts. Thank you!

Separately, I would like to go ahead and make the updates to the infobox numbers (they are a bit out of date) and cited corrections to the company history and product offerings. Do you see any problems with that? Thanks! Agmacq (talk) 16:18, 17 October 2012 (UTC)

I am aware of your response but you wrote so much that I could not immediately respond to it all so I put it off. You are always welcome to do NPOV editing with references. I am not sure what you can do about the company history or product offereings because I do not see what sources you have for this which are not published by your own company, and those sources are out-of-bounds. You are welcome to delete unsourced content.
Fixing info in the infobox is usually considered to be okay, even with your own organization's own sources, because that is often the only way to get data like current budget. Thoughts? Email me if you want to chat by voice or video, which often saves time over text. Blue Rasberry (talk) 16:24, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. None of my proposed edits to the history section are to articles on our website. Two are to Forbes and Business Week. Both of those are available online but I forgot to add the URLs to the citation so I will do that now on my draft. They describe the founding in a little more cited detail than was there before, so it sounds like that part would be OK to add as well. Agmacq (talk) 19:28, 17 October 2012 (UTC)
Hi Bluerasberry, I updated the products section following your suggestions of citing only with third-party references and deleting unsourced content. My draft is here. (I followed your guideline of copying the original text first so you can see the edit history.) Let me know if you see any problems with me posted this updated sourced section. Thanks. Agmacq (talk) 23:12, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
I reviewed this content and posted a comment [[User_talk:Agmacq/Products_draft|here]. Thanks for stopping by - feel free to return anytime. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:16, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
Thank you so much for your reply. I am working on doing the same thing with the controversies section, with regard to the uncited portions, so I hope you will be able to take a look at that when I have it. In the meantime, I would like to add one well-cited sentence to the second paragraph in the lead as another view. (Also I can provide a citation for the uncited part that is already there). I have a draft here. Do you think I could add this update? I don't know if having three citations is overkill, but I just want to make the point that there is a valid alternate view. Thanks! Agmacq (talk) 23:05, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
Hi Bluerasberry, thank you again for your help with the products section. I have written a revised draft of the controversies section here. I hope you can take a look at it. I again pasted the original version first so you can see what changed and I cited only third-party references and deleted unsourced content. Please let me know if you see any problems with me posting this updated sourced section. Thanks. Agmacq (talk) 00:54, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Unethical human experimentation in the United States

Thanks for your comment (and your patience.) I think the Markingson case may have received more academic attention than you think. You can find it discussed in IRB Advisor, for example, and in Elliott's White Coat, Black Hat.

http://connection.ebscohost.com/c/articles/33725224/conflict-interest-issues-raised-by-subjects-suicide

http://www.amazon.com/White-Coat-Black-Hat-Adventures/dp/0807061425

Also, the case resulted in a change in Minnesota law so that psychiatrists are now banned from recruiting patients under an involuntary commitment order into psychiatric drug studies.

https://www.revisor.mn.gov/statutes/?id=253B.095&format=pdf

The case has also been discussed in academic sessions at meetings of Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research, the American Association of Bioethics and Humanities, Pharmed Out, and the Australasian Association of Bioethics and Health Law.

Also, while many of the examples on this page have indeed received a substantial amount of attention from academics and policymakers, quite a few have only been reported in the press or in a single book (for example, some of the examples cited in Goliszek's In The Name of Science.)
