Mary Grace Sonora Poe Llamanzares (born 03 September 1968), commonly known as Grace Poe or Grace Poe-Llamanzares, is the former chairperson of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) in the Philippines. She is the adopted daughter of National Artist Fernando Poe Jr. (FPJ), the King of Philippine Movies, and his wife Susan Roces, as well as the half-sister of the actress Lovi Poe.
Education
Grace Poe took Bachelor of Arts in Development Studies in University of the Philippines Manila (UPM). While in UP, she got elected as Chairperson of the College Freshman Assembly (1986-1987) and Sophomore Batch Representative to the Student Council (1987-1988). The following year, she left the Philippines to study in the United States. She went to Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, USA and graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor Arts in Political Science degree (with concentration in Government and Political Theory).[1] During that time, she co-founded the Filipino Cultural Club of Boston College.[2]
Political Engagement
Following the death of Fernando Poe Jr in 2004 and the eventual discovery of massive cheating attributed to her father's fiercest rival in the 2004 Philippine presidential election, former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, she became active in numerous protest rallies in various parts of the Philippines. Later on, she led various groups to organize Kontra Daya, a coalition of civil society groups and movements to oppose electoral fraud in the 2010 presidential election and to deepen democratic engagement in the Philippines through voters' education on the Automated Election System and dialogues with Commission on Elections.[2]
As MTRCB Chair
In 2010, then newly elected Philippine President, Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino III appointed Grace Poe as Chair of MTRCB.[3] Under her leadership, MTRCB accomplished the following things:
- Introduction of a new classification system for movies and television [4]
- Additional institutional support to independent film makers[5]
- Institutional engagement with other government agencies, media organizations and other interest groups in order to protect the interests of children.[6][7][8][9]
In line with her aim to protect the interest of children, Grace Poe, through Memorandum Circular 05-2011 (Revised TV Ratings) introduced new guidelines on TV Classification by introducing the 'Strong Parental Guidance' ("SPG") in addition to the existing 'General Patronage' ("G") and 'Parental Guidance' ("PG") television content ratings and implemented the pictogram advisory with full-screen written and verbal advisory about the TV classification before the opening credits of a particular program. In 2012, through Memorandum Circular 08-2012 (Classification Rating 16), she also introduced the Restricted 16 ("R16") as additional Film Classification Rating for movies which have content that is too mature for 13-year-old viewers and too juvenile for an 18-year-old moviegoers.

The new circular gives 70% discount review fee for qualified independent films produced by Filipino filmmakers.
During her term, MTRCB signed numerous Memorandums of Agreements (MOA) and Memorandums of Understanding (MOU) which aim to protect children's welfare, promote gender equality, facilitate responsible and ethical broadcasting, and educating the general public about the responsibilities and duties of sectors and industries that use broadcast media.

The Makabayan Coalition, composed of various progressive movements and parties in the Philippines, also includes her name in their five guest senatorial candidates.[11]
