Rensselaer School
Rensselaer is a small town in North Western Indiana, and is home to 6,096 residents. This rural town is halfway between Indianapolis and Chicago. The local college was once a place where the Chicago Bears had their training camps, but no longer have them there today. Rensselaer is one for the books; they have schools, farmlands, and sports. Rensselaer takes pride in their sports, and have numerous ones to offer.
Sports
Rensselaer (2) has many things to offer at their school, besides the schooling. Rensselaer offers nine sporting activities at the high school; Football, Baseball, Boys/Girls Basketball, Boys/Girls Soccer, Boys/Girls Tennis, Softball, Volleyball, Boys/Girls Swimming, Wrestling, Boys/Girls Cross Country and Boys/Girls Track. This school has plenty of sports options open when it comes to playing in high school. As this school progresses, it has gone higher in division rankings. The baseball program started out 2A, then in 2006-2007 they were bumped up to 3A. The reason why a school goes up in division is due to how many male, or female students attend the school. The thing is this does not happen with every sport, at Rensselaer the football team is 2A, along with the Tennis, Swimming, Wrestling, Cross Country, and Track. Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Volleyball, and Basketball are all 3A sports here. Rensselaer does not have numerous state championships, but Rensselaer is known for there sportsmanship. Rensselaer excels in all of these events, especially the football and track programs.
Football
Rensselaer Central is known for many things, but mostly football. Rensselaer takes pride in their football program and tries to succeed no matter what. In the past five years Rensselaer has won 5 sectional titles, and 2 regional titles (4). In 2009 Rensselaer played went to semi-state, where they played Fort Wayne Luers (5). Rensselaer ended up losing at semi-state 21-52, but put up one good fight. In 2010, Rensselaer did exactly the same thing accept this year Rensselaer had gone undefeated all the way up to the semi-state game. The Regional Game was won against the Bremen Lions, by a score of 35-28. The Bremen Lions (1) were 9-3 before they were beaten for their fourth loss, which ended there run for a state championship. This led to Rensselaer advancing to the semi-state game against the Fort Wayne Luers, which was a tough team. Fort Wayne Luers were 13-1 heading into this game (8). Fort Wayne was also ranked number two in the state right behind the Rensselaer Bombers who were ranked number one. This was a game that one could say to be clash of the titans. A number one team versus a number two team, two of the best teams in the state going head to head. The Fort Wayne Luers ended up beating the Rensselaer Bombers in this semi-state game 21-42.
Baseball
Rensselaer Baseball has had rough patches throughout the years, but is sticking with it. Rensselaer has been doing some rebuilding when it comes to the sport of baseball.
