The 38th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is a part of the annual film festival in Metro Manila, Philippines that will be held from December 25, 2012 until January 8, 2013. During the festival, no foreign films are shown in Philippine theaters in order to showcase locally produced films.

Entries

On the last week of May, film producers and companies already submitted their scripts in participation with the festival. However, it will still be reviewed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to sort out entries. Of the 15 film entries submitted, 8 were chosen as the official entries.

New Wave Feature Films

The year 2010 marked a new era for the MMFF when it hosted the "Tribute to Independent Cinema", a non-competitive event for the Independent genre, which the Festival later called New Wave. Five independent films were screened in Robinson's Theater as a prelude to the MMFF opening on December 25, 2010.

By 2011, MMDA Chairman Francis N. Tolentino, inspired by the continued popularity of independent films in the country and expressing his support to the genre, announced the addition of the New Wave Section to widen the scope of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

This year, the MMFF will continue the tradition of supporting independent films through a bigger, better and bolder New Wave Section.
