Andy Mellon is a musician based in London [1]

Mellon started to play the cornet aged 11. He joined the Chichester City Brass Band when he was 13 and won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music to study.

He went on to study for a degree at Goldsmiths College and specialised in performance and composition.

After Goldsmiths he began playing with many North African musicians including Abdelkader Saadoun and Fantazia as well as performing in Brazilian and Salsa bands.

In 2004 he joined the band Bellowhead as one of the original members. [2]

As well as live performance he has recorded extensively. His trumpet playing can be heard on many TV and Film soundtracks including Charlie and Lola [3] and The Bunny and the Bull [4]

His work as a composer includes “The Hartlepool Monkey” for Streetwise Opera [5] and “An Axolotl Odyssey” for the Cultural Olympiad, which received its premiere at The Natural History Museum with the author DBC Pierre [6]

He was nominated for a BASCA composer award in 2011 [7]
