Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant is a proposed 2,000 megawatt (MW) Nuclear power plant of Bangladesh. If build, it will be country's first nuclear power plant.

Location

The nuclear power plant will be build at Ruppur, in the Ishwardi sub district of Pabna District, in the northwest of the country.

History

The proposed was first raised in 1961. Government took 253.90 acre of land of current place at that year to build the plant. In 1963 the plant was approved. Discussion took place with Canadian government at 1964 at in 1966. Discussion with Swedish and Norwegian governmental were also ongoing at those years. However no real progress achieved. After independence of Bangladesh, the Government of Bangladesh started discussion with then Soviet Union however it did not see light. Defiantly in 2009 the Bangladesh government again started discussion with Russian government and at 13th February the two governments signed MoU. [1] [2] [3] [4]> </ref>
