Johan Hendrik Doeleman (Rotterdam, Netherlands, 5 March 1848 – Voorburg, Netherlands 10 May 1913 ) was a Dutch lecturer , Painter, Drawer, Watercolourist , Impressionist

He married on 29 October 1874 in Rotterdam Josina Christina Cornelia Wierikx, who was born in Delftshaven, in the Netherlands in about 1850.

Career

He was a drawer at the Drawing Academy in Rotterdam in 1877. In the beginning he lived and worked near Haastrecht in the Netherlands but since 1899 he lived and worked in The Hague and painted mainly sea- and woodlandscapes. But he also painted still lives and figures. Occasionally he painted together with one of the The Hague School painters such as Willem Maris and then produced very identical works of art with for instance ducks. He not only produced oils but also watercolours and was also admired as an impressionist. He was accepted as a member of Puchri Studio, an important artist's society in The Hague, the Netherlands. In 1902 he was made an honoury member of the academy in Rotterdam.

Musea

The “Gemeente” Museum in Nijmegen , the “Zeeuws” Museum in Middelburg and the Historic Museum in Deventer exhibit his work.

Pupils

Leo Oosthout and Ernst Bickenese were some of his pupils.

Exhibitions

He held exhibitions of his works in the Hague and Amsterdam between 1872 and 1903.
