Matt Edmondson (born 27 December 1985 in Portsmouth, Hampshire)[1] is a British television and Sony Award-nominated radio presenter, specialising in music, entertainment and celebrity news.

Television career

Edmondson was a CBBC continuity presenter from 2004 to 2006, prior to which, in 2002, he was a roving reporter for Channel 4's Richard & Judy.[2]

Edmondson co-presented the 2008 coverage of the Isle of Wight Festival for ITV2.[3] He also provided links and commentary for the MTV coverage of the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards. He presented reports from T in the Park 2009 for BBC One Scotland, BBC Two Scotland and BBC Three.[4]

On 26 June 2009 he presented The Saturdays at Work, a one-off behind-the-scenes documentary following the making of the video for The Saturdays' fifth single "Work" on FIVER.[5]

Edmondson also does voice-overs for 4Music and presents Channel 4's Freshly Squeezed.[6][7]

In May 2010 he presented highlights from The Great Escape Festival[8] and the Topman CTRL Student Tour[9] on Channel 4.

In 2009 he began presenting the online music-based show Sony Ericsson's Pocket TV.[10] which transferred to T4 for its second series.

In August 2010, Matt joined Fearne Cotton and Dave Berry to host coverage of the iTunes Festival 2010, for ITV2.

He hosted the 2010 BT Digital Music Awards for ITV2 alongside Caroline Flack. In 2013 he started hosting the comedy panel show Fake Reaction on ITV2

Online

Edmondson was the resident interviewer for Holy Moly TV, from 2006-2008 where he conducted irreverent chats with celebrities on HolyMoly.com[11] and YouTube.[12]

During The X Factor 2009, Edmondson wrote, produced, presented and edited a series of videos on YouTube,[13] notable[citation needed] for the attention they drew to the "Jesus Light" used on certain contestants. It throws an ethereal glow out from behind the singer, drawing comparison with the Son of God as depicted in many works of art.

These blogs were seen by ITV and in 2010 were legitimised for 'The F Factor' on itv.com/xfactor. [citation needed]

He also writes, produces, edits and lend his voice to re-caps of the BBC's 2010 series of The Apprentice in the online show 'Fast Forward' on bbc.co.uk/apprentice. He didn't do this role for the 2011 series but returned for 2012 in the Apprentice: Matt Edmondson Funny Bits which is basically the same as before where he analyses the weeks show but with a funny critique which is similar to Harry Hills TV Burp and this is available on the Apprentice BBC Website and the BBC YouTube channel.

In March 2011, as part of Comic Relief's 24 Hour Panel People, where David Walliams took part in panel shows for 24 hours, Edmondson presented links in between some of the panel shows, as well as taking part in the last show.

Radio

On 8 January 2010, it was confirmed that Edmondson had joined BBC Radio 1, and appeared every Friday on Fearne Cotton's show to report on entertainment news and showbiz gossip. His first appearance on Cotton's programme was on 15 January 2010.[14]

He began presenting the Sunday 10am-1pm slot on BBC Radio 1 on 14 March 2010, filling in for regular presenter Sara Cox whilst she was off on maternity leave.[15]

Edmondson started a weekly show on BBC Radio 1 on 6 April 2011. He has replaced Huw Stephens from 9pm to 10pm on Wednesdays, who in turn replaced Jo Whiley on weekends from 1pm to 4pm after she moved to BBC Radio 2.[16]

On 12 January 2013, Edmondson started presenting the weekend 10am-1pm show, replacing Vernon Kay (who left the station) and Sara Cox (who is covering for Fearne Cotton while on maternity leave).

Other work

As well as presenting, Edmondson is a writer and producer, having written for ITV1's SMTV Live and Sky1's Shock Treatment as well as writing and editing the 're-cap' sections of online ITV show The F Factor and online BBC Apprentice spin-off Fast Forward.

He was a columnist for The X Factor Magazine where he has a weekly page discussing Pop Music and the X Factor.[17]

He appeared in the music video for the song "Make Peace Not War" by British grime artist Skepta.[18]

Personal life

Edmondson is originally from Portsmouth and attended St Edmunds School before attending Havant College. He now lives in Greenwich, London. His sister Kate Edmondson is also a television presenter. In May 2012 he became engaged to his long-term girlfriend Emmett.[19]
