Heiner Backhaus (born 4 February 1982, in Witten, Germany) is a professional footballer[1] who plays for Rabat Ajax as a midfielder.[2]


Heiner Backhaus is a german/greek professionalfootballplayer. Backhaus played in several countries in 4 continents. He started his carreer with his  homeclub FC Schalke 04 in age of 6 years and went 10 years through all levels of the academy of the ruhrarea club. Playing regularly for the several youth national teams of Germany, he was offered a 3-year-contract of german top club Werder Bremen. After 2 years in Bremen he was loaned to Rot Weiss Essen. Hannover 96 was his next step. Backhaus was part of the team, that promoted to 1.Bundesliga in 2002. He left a year later to play for Union Berlin, and was signed 6 months later again by Cypriot Champion and Cupwinner Anorthosis Famagusta. After 2 years playing in Cyprus (Anorthosis and AEK Larnaka, he moved in 2004 with argentinian manager Jorge Habbegger to AL Ettifaq Dammam in Saudi Arabia. After the release of Habbegger, Backhaus signed with german Bundesliga Club Arminia Bielefeld and went back to Germany.Moving from Bielefeld to Kickers Offenbach. In 2007 Backhaus signed for Maltas Top club Valletta FC, where he won the double,the best foreign player award and he was part of the team who has beaten italian Champions Juventus Torino in 2008. After that year Backhaus accepted an offer from Hong Kong Club Kitchee FC,where he won the league championship in 2009. From Kitchee FC ,backhaus was transfered to Olympiakos Nicosia. After 2 years in Cyprus,Backhaus made his coaching licence. Backhaus became the first player in history who was transfered in 2012 from the greek side of cyprus to the northern turkish occupied area ,where he played for cupwinner Lefke Turk Gucu.In 2012 Backhaus moved back to Malta and signed for Rabat Ajax FC , but asked for his release in december 2012. From january 2013, Backhaus got the invitation from german coach-legend Ewald Lienen, to learn and practice with AEK Athens as a coach.
