Etymology

Although Leckwith may derive from the personal name Helygwydd and Lle meaning place: the place of Helygwydd (possibly a warrior or saint), it is more likely to come from a simple descriptive name formed from the Welsh lle or llecyn, place; helyg willow and gwydd trees, Lle-helygwydd, the place of the willow trees. the hely element having been lost in local usage over time.
