Anchitheriomys is an extinct member of the beaver family, Castoridae. Until recently, it was placed in a closely related family of rodents, Eutypomyidae (e.g., McKenna & Bell 1997, p. 129), but Korth & Emry (1997) have since described a partial skull that shows similarities to another early beaver, Agnotocastor.
