This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 24.19.57.152 (talk) at 05:30, 19 March 2013 (rem'd odd etymological aside about "Leroy". Near as I can tell it has nothing to do with anything. Should we also mention that Michelle means "Who is like God?"?). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

"Anchorage" is a song by Michelle Shocked released as a single from her 1988 album Short Sharp Shocked. The song is about the narrator taking time out to write to an old friend, who has moved from Texas to Anchorage, and her friend's reply. She calls for Chel to "keep rocking in New York."[2]

The song's theme is about a young woman who has given up her freedom in exchange for a life in geographically remote Alaska. The song's protagonist is given no name, though her husband Leroy is mentioned repeatedly.
