Mustapha M. Farrakhan, Jr. (born November 2, 1988) is an American professional basketball shooting guard with the Idaho Stampede of the NBA Development League.

Early life

Mustapha Farrakhan Jr. was born in Harvey, Illinois on November 2, 1988.[1] He attended Thornton Township High School.[2] During college, he played basketball for the Virginia Cavaliers.[3] During his last season with the University of Virginia, Farrakhan averaged 13.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per game.[4] Farrakhan majored in Sociology.[5] Farrakhan is a practicing Muslim.[6]

Family

Farrakhan is a grandson of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan and Khadijah Farrakhan.[7] His father, Mustapha Farrakhan, is a police officer and the Supreme Captain of the Nation of Islam.[8][9] His aunt, Donna Farrakhan Muhammad, the second woman to ever become a minister in the Nation of Islam, is the former Sister Captain of the Muslim Girls Training (MGT).[10]

NBA Development League career

During October 2011, Farrakhan was a first round draft pick for the NBA Development League.[11] Farrakhan was the 13th overall pick of the 2011 draft.[12] He was chosen by the Bakersfield Jam.[13]

Farrakhan played for the Iowa Energy during the 2012–13 season before being waived on January 28, 2013. On January 31, 2013, he was acquired by the Sioux Falls Skyforce.[14] On February 25, 2013, he was traded to the Idaho Stampede.[15]
