Edsel Dope (born Brian Ebejer March 21, 1974) is the lead singer and main songwriter for dope, an industrial metal band, originally from New York. It was founded on December 10, 1997 by Edsel and his brother, Simon (keyboards).
Edsel co-produced all of dope's albums. On felons and revolutionaries, Dope's first album (released in 1999), Edsel played and programmed most of the musical instruments. Dope is essentially Edsel's band, and although some of his choices may not always meet the approval of his fans, he still deserves credit for keeping dope a force to be reckoned with, through its many trials and tribulations.
Edsel was raised in the poorer neighborhoods of South Florida by his single mother. He started practising his drums at the age of four by playing along to his KISS albums. As the years passed, Edsel's love for music grew and expanded. He started out listening to a lot of glam punk, then gangsta rap, and subsequently moving on to industrial metal, where most of his musical influence comes from. He left home at the age of sixteen, and ended up in Las Vegas, where he met one of his best friends, Ginger Fish. Edsel was staying with Ginger when the latter joined Marilyn Manson. When Marilyn Manson recorded Smells Like Children, Edsel joined Ginger in New Orleans, and the two shared an apartment with Marilyn Manson's keyboardist, Madonna Wayne Gacy. In 1995, Edsel moved to New York City with his elder brother, Simon.
Edsel has a knack for electronic gadgetry, and has always been the whiz behind Dope's programming and keyboard sounds in the studio. He is a self-taught musician and an expert guitarist as well as bass player. dope is the first and only band that Edsel has ever fronted or played anything but drums in. Before forming dope, Edsel's ambition was to make his mark in music as a drummer. Edsel now performs drums in Tripp and Dereks from Twisted Method's new band Makeshift Romeo along with Dope guitarist Virus.
