The ninth season of SpongeBob SquarePants was announced on January 3, 2011. A total of 26 episodes will be produced for the season, bringing the number of episodes up to 204 and will pass the 200-episode milestone.[1] The season premiered with the episodes "Extreme Spots" and "Squirrel Record" on July 21, 2012. This is the first SpongeBob season to be produced in high-definition.[citation needed]

When The Drasticals come to town, their new super fans, SpongeBob and Patrick, try to do whatever it takes to join them, no matter how extreme – or dangerous. Whether attempting sand motorbiking, hang gliding, seashell surfing or extreme bubble blowing, SpongeBob and Patrick undertake the challenge in an effort to demonstrate they’re extreme.

Note: This originally aired as part of the "The Super Spongy Square Games" special. This and the following filled the first half-hour, while Demolition Doofus and Face Freeze! from Season 8 filled the other half.
