This is a list of alternative hip-hop artists.

Alternative hip hop fuses traditional hip hop with elements from other musical genres, such as reggae, soul, funk, jazz, or even orchestral music (such as Jay Electronica). It is usually independent, although some artists have achieved mainstream success.

Alternative hip hop is a distinctive genre of conscious rap, but can even incorporate elements from rock and metal.

It also typically discards hardcore rap themes like street violence, though not always, as some groups like Cypress Hill retain this. Plus, some alternative hip-hop acts openly rap about marijuana usage and sex just as their gangsta-rap counterparts. Still, alternative hip hop does what most gangsta rap does not do – it delivers philosophical, social and emotional messages.
