Tourism in Macau

Macau is located on the southeast coast of China, is a special managerial region of the country. Since Macau is using the “one country two systems” principle just like Hong Kong, acting as a special region of China, therefore it gained a lot of benefits from the principle. In addition, Macau is a small place, which is 29.9 sq.km big. Population in Macau is approximately 582,000. [1] Tourism is a major industry in Macau. It is famous for the blend of Portuguese and Chinese cultures and its gambling industry, which includes Casino Lisboa, Macau, Sands Macau, The Venetian Macao, and Wynn Macau. Nowadays, there are a lot of choices of hotels and resorts since it is one of the world class tourism industry in Asia.

Gambling and Tourism

Macau is well known for its gambling industry.[2] It attracts many people to go there in every year. Besides gambling industry and casino, it also has a deep historical. Macau was managed by Portugal in 1631.[3] After Macau returned to China, many tourists travel to Macau. At the beginning, most of the tourists were from Hong Kong.[4] [5] However, after the government of China had published the liberalizing of travel policies, a large number of tourists were from mainland, since then the number of tourists had then started to rise. Most of the visitors like to go to the well-known tourist sites, such as Senado Square, A-Ma Temple and Ruins of St. Paul's . Since Macau is a small place, therefore too many tourists can cause problems to the residents that is it makes the places very crowed. Not only those Chinese mainland people are interested in those places, but also it attracts many different foreign countries’ tourists. [6] Moreover, since Macau’s development is very close to the mainland, as a result the Chinese government has put a lot of effort to build a new Macau. Chinese government is building the tourism industry and other leisure activity in order to make the value of Macau grown up more forward. [7] [8]


Climate and clothing

The climate in Macau is temperate degree in a year. The temperature is about 20ºC (68ºF) and ranges from 16ºC (50ºF) to 25ºC (77ºF). The best time to go to Macau is around October- December. Visitors can bring some casual and portable clothes during travel time. If in winter period, visitors can bring a coat or jacket. The weather in Macau is stable. [9]
