To do
- Translate titles of work trains; Done
- Create a section of Neolithic inventions of the Russian Plain, Russian North, North Caucasus and Siberia (useful links: 1, 2 ); Done
- Create missing English wikipedia articles; Not done
- Create a section for Russian discoveries [reasoning - it is more convenient to have inventions, technology records and discoveries on one page]. Done (but still need expansion)

IP comment from WP:PR moved here
The following comment was left at Wikipedia:Peer review by an IP, diff. It did not belong there, so I am moving it here. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 11:49, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
- I believe that the List of Russian inventions should be deleted as…
- This list is filled with Soviet era Communist propaganda claiming that the Russians invented everything. It brings to mind the “Star Trek” episodes where Chekov said “Scotch? It was invented by a little old lady from Leningrad”
- Also, the much better Timeline of Russian inventions and technology records page already exist and appears to be far more accurate and Comprehensive as it contains supporting information. Therefore, I see no need to maintain both pages — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.22.156.40 (talk • contribs) 05:40, April 6, 2012 (UTC)
- The were no false claims about inventions in USSR; there was a brief period of "campaign against cosmopolitanism" under Stalin when inventions were given undue weight (like in case of Mozhaisky's airplane) or sources were not thoroughly checked (like in case of Artamonov bicycle) [those articles are not present in the list] but there were no blatant falsifications.
- The priority of these inventions is established by reliable sources. Even if an invention was not mass-produced in Russia - you can't "invent" something that has already been invented by the Russians.
- Some other lists of inventions contain minimal supporting information; IMO most of which is also unnecessary - a list should be arranged in such a way that it can be quickly browsed through. Different formats and indenting is used here for some sub-lists which helps to break monotonity of the article to keep it memorable. It's fine as a plain list. Adding supporting information is a good idea, but it wouldn't work here - expanded descriptions are more suitable for a chronological order. In support of having two versions I would also point out that many netbooks are barely able to to run their OS and many libraries and Internet cafes use outdated computers.
- If something caught your attention you can just click on the entry. There are problems, yes - missing articles, inventions not mentioned in the articles they're linked to; missing references. However, one of the principles of wikipedia is "assume good faith". The list was composed with that assumption in mind and it'll be improved in time. I've added footnotes about lightning rod, personal computer, insubmersibility; if anything else needs supporting information - add the disambiguation or citation needed tags.

- Yes I do agree that a lot of the articles linked into do not mention any Russian invention in the history segments so possibly they need improving if they are indeed true, not saying Russians are lying so I mean no offence. Although is it really necessary to have ancient inventions in this list? A brief look at other countries invention lists don't list ancient discoveries, likely because such an invention is not a country invention due to the country not being founded....or even the concept of countries not existing. - They do indeed need improving - some of these articles rely on sources that write-off Russian contributions in the field (read: poor quality scholarship). Sources showing gross ignorance in Eastern technology should be disqualified as RS. For the ancient inventions: there are some racist implications if we go with state as an inclusion criteria. Statehood requires a settled lifestyle, but did nomadic inventions make a lesser impact on history? Numerous tribes who were absorbed into Volga Bulgaria, Kievan Rus', etc. didn't have a proper state but have a number of noteworthy inventions from the time of their independence. Besides that, the List of Chinese inventions - a work to look up to - does list ancient inventions. 83.149.9.242 (talk) 07:40, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Declined proposal for deletion
The rationale in the proposal for deletion was:
“ | The much better Timeline of Russian inventions and technology records page already exist and appears to be far more accurate and Comprehensive as it contains supporting information. Therefore, I see no need to maintain both pages | ” |
However, there is significant sourced information on this page that is not present on the Timeline of Russian inventions and technology records page, including (but not limited to):
- Distaff
- Trousers
- Wooden bridge
- Composite bow
Deletion of this article goes against the editing policy WP:PRESERVE. Perhaps a merge to the Timeline of Russian inventions and technology records article would be a solution? Northamerica1000(talk) 11:36, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
On revert
- Restored main battle tank - the note is clear that the contributions are not general concept but technological standards.
- Restored IFV - Wikipedia reflects worldwide view. Russians classify Schützenpanzer 12-3 as an APC (it was an APC with a 20mm cannon and some NBC protection). Appropriate note is present.
- Fyodorov Avtomat was an assault rifle - there was a discussion at [1] with all arguments already on the table.
- Restored flamethrower and GPMG. "I know that much" won't work on Wikipedia.
- Viruses have been discovered by Ivanovsky according to the generally-held view.
- Restored MIR - it was a personal computer - a workstation, perhaps. Programma 101 might have set architectural standards but it used a roll of paper as its screen. OK, I admit a personal computer might evoke associations of stolen MP3s and chronic masturbation. So let's call it personal workstation. Anything before Programma 101 and MIR were just calculators.
- I'll add some sources for wide-angle lens later.

Boldface
Why are some entries in boldface? There is no apparent reason for this. --Janke | Talk 12:36, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
- Agree. WP:BOLDFACE does not recommend using boldface (if anything, than italicface for important expression). Regards.--Tomcat (7) 14:25, 31 December 2012 (UTC)
Wheel
Where the wheel was invented, is kind of a speculation. Maybe India, maybe Mesopotamia, maybe China, maybe Russa... 188.96.230.245 (talk) 14:17, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
