Democratic-Republican

[edit]

Please do not change "Democratic-Republican" to "Republican." I know that they called themselves "Republicans," but to make such a change now would require some consensus. Take it up here: Talk:Democratic-Republican Party. THANKS!—GoldRingChip 12:44, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To be candid, I am not certain as to how to conclude a consensus on this topic. Thank you for your attempt to educate me, however political scientists created the name "Democratic-Republican" around the Progressive era. As a Historian of American Government and the Classics, I have yet to read any form of communication or documentation where the once Anti-Administration members of Congress called themselves a "Democratic-Republican."
I do, however have sources where they call themselves "Republicans." Senator Bradley in 1808 where wrote of a "...Convention of Republican members of both houses of Congress..." while speaking of their 1804 convention.
The Republican Party can be simplified like this:
  • Patriots / American Whigs (American Revolution)
  • Anti-Federalists (1787-1789)
  • Anti-Administration (1789-1791)
  • Republican Party (1791-1825)
  • National Republican Party (1825-1833)
  • Whig Party (1833-1854)
  • Republican Party (1854-present) *the GOP is
The Democratic Party can be simplified like this:
  • Patriots / American Whigs (American Revolution)
  • Federalists (1787-1824)
  • Democratic Party (1824-present)
With that said, I can indeed not edit the "Democratic-Republican" Wikipedia page, but the readers must be educated on the fabrication of the said title.—‎User:Minniewinnie 12:30, 4 April 2012‎
(I reformatted your reply to make it flow better as a dialogue. You may find that useful for future discussions.)—GoldRingChip 18:10, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you that it's an unfortunate fabrication. I suggest moving this discussion at Talk:Democratic-Republican Party. To do so, I suggest clicking here, which will begin a new discussion at Talk:Democratic-Republican Party. Repeat what you've said above, and see what other people think.—GoldRingChip 18:10, 4 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
