Established in 1922, the University of Delhi is truly a pioneering institution, known for its internationally renowned faculty, highly reputed departments and above all for its commitment to impart quality, variety, depth and relevance in education to its students. In 1973, the department of Business Economics pioneered the Masters Program in Business Economics, MBE, patterned on a similar program conducted by the Harvard Business School. Since then the Department has become a centre of excellence, imparting quality education to the students. The eclectic blend of faculty, academicians, researchers and professionals drawn from India and abroad, with their vast pool of managerial expertise distinguished the Department from others and gives it a revered position. Today, it boasts of an illustrious alumni base of over a thousand people who have made a mark in various capacities in the corporate world as well as in the academia.The Department has consistently endeavored to provide students with strong conceptual and analytical skills in order to inculcate proficient management capabilities in them. The pedagogy has been designed to create an environment where learning is facilitated by numerous channels for self expression and introspection. It combines case studies, field wok and instrumented feedback with a strong emphasis on concepts and theory. Aiming to synchronize theoretical and practical elements of business, the curriculum has been continuously developed and modified over the years in conformity with feedback received from the industry and the alumni. Academics
MBE : Masters in Business Economics:
The programme offers its students an enhanced understanding of business fundamentals augmented with Applied Economics which realigns the managerial decision-making. The curriculum of the programme spans across the fields of Finance, Marketing & Economics along with the quantitative perception of the markets to understand and predict their behavior in future without losing the sight of environmental considerations of such business activities. As the world is grappling with a global financial crisis, there is a need for an exploration of what led to it. This starkly brings out the need of clear understanding of business and the governing economic factors which drive the business at a national and international scale. This is where MBE has carved its niche to address such business issues and concerns. What sets it apart from other postgraduate courses is that it not only bridges the long-drawn gap between business and economics but also aids in managerial decision-making by bringing together business fundamentals and economic concepts
The course structure comprises of four semesters that are taught over a two year period. In the first year 12 papers are conducted. Here you would be oriented with the fundamentals of statistics, micro and macro economics, various aspects of business as finance, operations, HR, Law etc.The second year offers plethora of opportunities whereby the students can choose 2 specialization papers from 7 avenues that are offered with 2 subjects per specialization paper.Also the students are required to undertake 8-10 week summer training with a reputed business organization working on specific projects assigned by the organizations.

Campus
The Department operates out of the University of Delhi’s South Campus on the Benito Juarez Road in the heart of the capital city Delhi. The Department set up in the midst of 69 acres of luxuriant foliage of south campus, the setting resembles a veritable Mecca of Learning. Being a part of a University of international repute, students of MBE have access to an infrastructure which is among the best in India.
Library: The Learning Centre The Campus Library is housed in a three storied building and is well-stocked with over 2,00,000 titles and subscribes to over 500 periodicals and research journals. Keeping pace with technological developments, the Library has started automated service operations and has an internet cell to allow free access to World Wide Web to all the students. Students also have access to a large database of online journals.
Information Technology The IT infrastructure in the Department serves the objective of equipping the students with requisite IT skills needed by the dynamic environment. The computing facilities expose students to a wide variety of operating systems and application softwares. The path to information superhighway has already been laid in the Departments by a full-fledged PC lab with Internet access on all the machines. Students also have Wifi access to Internet in the Departments as well as in the hostels.
Hostel Facilities Separate hostel facilities for men and women are available to students on the Campus. Students need to apply for hostel accommodation separately to the wardens of these hostels.
Student Life
Student Activities Like the business environment itself, the Department is perpetually on the move. We believe that the pursuit of excellence should not be independent of an overall personality development. A typical day at MBE is a reflective of this belief- Apart from the lectures, students are always managing their time between corporate seminars, knowledge intensive discussions, industry projects, sports, club activities, B-schools’ event participation or managing one of the many annual events of the Department. At MBE, we take pride in organizing various events round the year, which help strengthen the Department's ties with the corporate world as well as foster organizing skills and professionalism among students.
Genesis – The First Stride The inaugural ceremony of the Association of Business Economics marks the opening of the new session at MBE.It is adressed by eminent personalities from the world of corporate and academia.
The Annual Convention The Annual Convention, highlight of the MBE calendar, provides a valuable platform for interaction between industry and academia. A current business issue is chosen as the theme for the convention and distinguished industrialists, policy makers, professionals and academicians are invited to put forth their views. The annual publication ‘The Business Economist’ is also launched featuring research papers and articles relevant to the convention theme. The journal is circulated among a large number of business houses, professionals, academicians, business schools and eminent personalities.
The Annual Alumni Meet
The Alumni Meet, held once every year, brings the alumni back in touch with their former faculty and classmates and is an opportunity for all to turn back the wheels of time for a fun-filled night. Like every year, this year too , on September 8th, 2012, our Alumni Meet,"Reminiscence 2012" facilitated the meeting of various corporates, industrialists and academician, all having a common alma-mater,MBE.
Clubs
Blue Chips – The Finance Club The Finance Club explores various financial practices from a practical point of view to add to theoretical knowledge. Once again, the tools of lectures, competitions and quizzes are employed to develop an understanding of various aspects of finance, thus enabling the students to pursue coveted careers in finance.
MarkBiz – The Marketing Club The Marketing Club endeavours to complement theoretical knowledge with understanding and application of professional marketing practices. By means of various distinguished lectures, competitions and quizzes, the club tries to develop an understanding of various aspects of marketing in the students and assists them in their pursuit of marketing careers by educating them about the different career opportunities in the field of marketing.
Eclat Society Eclat is an analytically rich monthly e-magazine of MBE. Every month, the Eclat team takes the onus of publishing a Harvard Business Review case study analysis, various company and industry analyses, stock market analysis of the month, top global news of the month, interaction with our alumni, peer opinion, happenings at MBE etc.
The Economics Society The Economics Society was conceptualized to take forward the theory taught in class room to real life happenings in the world, forming a crucial link in the learning process at MBE. Society organizes regular discussions on various current events, seminars and documentary sessions. An annual event was organized by the society, involving the best of minds from the academia as well as the corporate world.
Knowmax Society It is a regular knowledge sharing session initiated by MBE 2012 batch. Its Motto is: learn, share and grow. It is a student driven activity, which involves voluntary presentations, case studies and seminars on financial, economic, Business and current topics from students. It also conducts general knowledge quizzes, group discussions and talk-a-minute sessions to make it more interactive. Industry Interaction – Seminars and Guest Lectures Industry Interaction forms an important part of the Department where industry stalwarts from major corporate houses are invited to share their thoughts, opinions and industry experience with the student community. This fosters a relationship with the industries and the students.
