Not all popes have resided in Rome. In the fourteenth century, seven popes resided in Avignon, which is in France, not in Italy. What, then, is the difference between Italy and France? We know that the flag of Italy is green, white, and red, and that the flag of France is blue, white, and red, and it just so happens that green minus blue equals yellow.

Italy - France = green white red - blue white red = ( green - blue ) white red = yellow white red.

These were the colors in the two flags of the papal states, and the first two thirds of this tricolor flag are basically the flag of today's Vatican City. That's why this flag should be adopted by the papal news network.

Don't get your pope news from Google or the Vatican. Just watch P.N.N..
